  1. What is a web browser? How does it work?
-a software application for retrieving, presenting, and traversing information resources on the World Wide Web.

  1. What is a bookmark?
-locally stored Uniform Resource Identifier (URI). Bookmarks are called favorites or Internet shortcuts in Internet Explorer, and by virtue of that browser's large market share, these terms have been synonymous with bookmark since the first browser war.

  1. What is the purpose of a web [browser] cache?
-A web cache stores copies of documents passing through it; subsequent requests may be satisfied from the cache if certain conditions are met. It also reduce bandwidth usage, server load, and perceived lag.

  1. What is a web [browser] plugin?
-a set of software components that adds specific abilities to a larger software application. If supported, plug-ins enable customizing the functionality of an application.

  1. Choose three types of web browsers and answer the following questions for each browser.

How do you customize search providers?
Mozilla Firefox – ctrl + T
Internet Explorer – click new tab or ctrl + T
Google Chrome - click and drag the tab down past the address bar

How do you set homepages?
Mozilla Firefox – Options>Tools>General
Internet Explorer – Tools>Internet Options>General
Google Chrome – Wrench icon on browser toolbar>Options>Settings>Basics

How do you customize search providers?
Mozilla Firefox - Right-click in that site's own search bar and choose Add to search bar
Internet Explorer – Manage Search Provider>Find more provider>OK
Google Chrome – Tools>Options>Basics>Select Google from default>Close

How do you bookmark a page?
Mozilla Firefox – Bookmarks>Bookmark this page
Internet Explorer - Favorites>Add to favorite
Google Chrome – ctrl + D

How do you clear the cache?
Mozilla Firefox – Tools>Options>Advanced>Network>Clear now
Internet Explorer – Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet>Internet Options>Safety>Delete Browsing History

How do you install a plugin?
Mozilla Firefox – Go to Firefox Add-ons site>Add to firefox>Install now
Internet Explorer – Tools>Manage Add-ons
Google Chrome – Extension Detail Page>Install>Click Install

How do you save pages offline?
Mozilla Firefox – (Use a firefox extension) Scrapbook
Internet Explorer- Page>Save as>Indicate where to save it
Google Chrome – ctrl + S>Select location for saving>Save
